Does it seem to you like there has been an unusual amount of seismic activity around the world lately?  Well, it isn’t just your imagination.  The Ring of Fire is roaring to life and that is really bad news for the west coast of the United States.  Approximately 90 percent of all earthquakes and approximately 75 percent of all volcanic eruptions occur along the Ring of Fire.  Considering the fact that the entire west coast of the United States lies along the Ring of Fire, we should be very concerned that the Ring of Fire is becoming more active.  On Wednesday, the most powerful strike-slip earthquake ever recorded happened along the Ring of Fire.  If that earthquake had happened in a major U.S. city along the west coast, the city would have been entirely destroyed. Millions of people living along the coastline of the Indian Ocean were left breathing a sigh of relief today after warnings of a devastating tsunami were lifted following two massive earthquakes.

Panic spread across the region after an 8.7 magnitude tremor struck 270 miles off the Indonesian province of Aceh – which bore the brunt of the Boxing Day tidal wave of 2004. Full Report →

Live: Multiple Tornadoes in DFW




Severe detached thunderstorms in the Metroplex spawned at least two tornadoes that injured several people, damaged homes and tossed cars and big-rigs into the air Tuesday afternoon.

The storm activity started with storms firing up to the west of the Metroplex late Tuesday morning.  By 11 a.m., the first cells began developing in the western counties.

USGS: 7.9-magnitude earthquake strikes in Guerrero region of Mexico


[Updated at 2:42 p.m. ET]  Tourists and residents told CNN they felt the earthquake in the resort city of Acapulco, which, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, is about 120 miles west of the epicenter.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon said in a Twitter post that there were no immediate reports of serious damage.

Storms, tornadoes, hail hammer U.S. midsection again

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Reuters) – Tornadoes touched down on Friday in northern Alabama causing significant damage, part of a parade of dangerous storms packing high winds and baseball-sized hail across the U.S. midsection, where violent weather this week claimed 13 lives.

Search and rescue teams were dispatched to the area around Huntsville in the aftermath of the severe weather, according to a state emergency management official. No injuries had been reported.
